Topic: Presentation on Marianne North, a Victorian English lady and Explorer, Botanist and Artist.
Presenter: Jenny O'Grady Giddy
Marianne North is a remarkable figure in her multitude of accomplishments. For 15 years, from 1870 she traveled the world to places as remote as Borneo, New Zealand, South Africa and Australia. She painted hundreds of plants and sent collections back to Kew Gardens, having discovered new species now named in her honor. Her legacy is the Marianne North Gallery, filled from floor to ceiling with her vibrant exuberant paintings of tropical plants.
