Membership
Benefits – Why become a member?
As a member of UU Catskills, you are part of a community that upholds the seven principles of Unitarian Universalism and pursues our mission of diversity, community, growth and action. Thirty days after becoming a member, you are eligible to vote at congregational meetings, where the budget is voted on, leadership is elected, a settled minister is called and other decisions are taken. At that time you are eligible to participate on or serve as the chair of a committee. Non-members may participate in committees and activities, but may not serve as chairs of committees.
Responsibilities of membership
Members are expected to participate in the community in several ways. All members are expected to support our mission and keep our covenant. Everyone is expected to give financial support by making and fulfilling an annual pledge. In addition, members also give of their time through holding elective office, volunteering, serving on committees, participating in work days or other activities.
How to become a member
To become a member, you must be eighteen years of age. (Individuals between thirteen and eighteen years of age who participate in the Religious Exploration program and have met with the minister may become junior members, with various levels of participation as determined by New York State law. Junior members become full regular members upon reaching the age of eighteen.)
Before becoming a member, you must speak with the minister and attend orientation sessions. Orientations are generally given monthly. After fulfilling these requirements, a person becomes a member by signing the Membership Book.
