On the eve of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference COP26 churches and houses of worship in the UK, US, and beyond are planning a coordinated action to ring out their bells in a “Code Red for Humanity”—a warning about the worsening environmental emergency and a reminder to the UN delegates of the urgency of the task at hand

Locally, the Kingston community is invited to gather on the front lawn of the Congregation Emanuel on Saturday, October 30, from  1 pm to 1:30 pm (masks and/or social distancing required; bring a blanket or chair), as we gather in silent contemplation and shared concern about the health and future of our planet and humanity.

Sound healer Theresa Widmann of Kingston’s Anahata yoga will guide participants through a sound bath, featuring gongs, singing bowls, and tuning forks, with intentions set for the healing of Mother Earth, and for much-needed progress to comeout of the COP26.

COP26 is being held in Glasgow, Scotland (October 31 through November 12), to discuss strategies around the climate emergency, and is expected to attract more than 190 world leaders and some 20,000 delegates.

This free Kingston community event is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Catskills, with space and support provided by Congregation Emanuel of the Hudson Valley. Attendees are encouraged to bring signs and banners to help raise awareness of the summit and related climate concerns.

All Kingston congregations are invited to join the call for action by ringing their bells for 30 minutes at 1pm on Saturday, October 30, as both a warning of the climate emergency, but also as a symbol of hope that the COP26 will lead to action to help heal our planet.
